  • What kind of salsa is taught at Camina?
At Camina we teach the traditional Cuban salsa or salsa casino, which is traditionally danced in Cuba, and over the years has evolved to reach the whole world and merging with different elements of the different Cuban popular dances.
  • Is it possible for Camina to organise private courses for individuals or groups, or events for companies or groups of people?
Yes, our team also offers private dance classes. We can adapt to each particular demand. Dance can be used to reinforce teams as a team building tool, just send us an email and we will send you a proposal tailored to your needs!
  • Are kids or minors allowed?
No, our school only offers classes for adults. Our students come from a wide range of ages.
  • How are classes organised throughout the year?
The school year is organised in 3 trimesters of 10 weeks. In June or in September, before the start of the regular classes, we have the Open Doors days. The dates of the Open Doors and of the start of the regular classes each trimester vary from year to year. We follow the Belgian French-speaking school calendar in Brussels, and of the Dutch-speaking school calendar in Antwerp, so the school is closed during the school vacations. In summer, we often organise some extraordinary workshops that are announced through our website and social media networks. The first trimester starts in mid-September, the second starts just after the Christmas holidays, and the third in the beginning of April.
  • When do I register for the start of the course or term?
Registrations for the first trimester start at the beginning of July. Registrations for the second and third trimester are made about two weeks before the start of the trimester. Registration periods are announced on our website and social media. You can register whenever you want, but keep in mind that some classes could be full.
  • What language(s) are the classes taught in?
Classes are taught in English (Brussels) or in Dutch (Antwerp), but teachers also translate into French and Spanish when necessary.
  • Free* trial class: how does it work?
In addition to the Open Doors days, you can try a class for free. *If you try a class and decide not to sign up, you don't have to pay anything. But if you try and decide to sign up, the price of that class will be included in with the price of your subscription, or paid separately.
  • Can I combine classes?
Yes, you can combine classes, and combinations lead to progressive reductions in the price of the subscription. We even have a full pass, with which you can access all classes (as long as you register for that class at the time of your full pass registration, and there are still places available). Here you can see the price of the different subscriptions:
  • Is there a waiting list for courses that are full? How does it work?
When a course is full, we fill a waiting list. When a spot becomes available, we contact the first person on the list by email. We can't wait more than a whole day to find someone, so in case of no response, we move on to the next person on the list.
  • Is it possible to attend sessions from time to time, instead of subscribing to a class?
In partnerwork classes, we privilege subscriptions, as we must keep the balance between leaders and followers. But in the classes where you dance alone, it is possible to take a single class: in Afrocuban dance, Lady Styling and Timba Fusion Style.
  • When are the Open Doors days? How do they work?
In June or September, before the start of the regular classes, we have the Open Doors days. The exact dates vary from year to year. During these days, you will be able to try the classes for free. IMPORTANT: Please note that due to the fact that the registrations for the first trimester start at the beginning of July, at the time of the Open Doors week, the groups may already be full.
  • Can I join without a partner?
Yes, you can come without a partner, we take care of maintaining the balance of leaders-followers for each class.
  • What can I do if I know in advance that I will miss some classes (due to travel, work, or other reasons)?
If you already know in advance that you cannot attend all the classes, you have to let us know at the time of registration, to see if the enrollment would be viable.
  • What is a follower and what is a leader in the class?
In Salsa, as in other types of partner dance, leader and follower are designations for the two dancers’s roles in a dance pairing. The leader is responsible for guiding the couple and initiating transitions to different dance steps and, in improvised dances, for choosing the dance steps to perform. The leader communicates choices to the follower, and directs the follower by means of subtle physical and visual signals, thereby allowing the pair to be smoothly coordinated. Although traditionally the male dance partner is the leader and the female dance partner is the follower, our approach to dance goes beyond gender, so you can choose the role that fits you best. For the correct functioning of the classes, we always seek to establish a good balance between the number of leaders and followers.
  • What clothes and shoes should I wear for the classes?
We recommend to wear shoes and clothes as comfortable as possible. In Afrocuban dance, we usually dance barefoot, and in other classes, heels may be used at specific times.
  • Drinks & food in class?
You can bring your bottle of water, but for hygienic reasons, it is not allowed to eat in the room.
  • What level is necessary to access each course?
There are classes that require a certain level. The level required to join a class is indicated in the description of each class, in the 'Classes' page and in the registration forms.
  • I already have salsa experience, but I don't know what level I should choose. What should I do?
In this case, you can come to the Open Doors days, or talk to us and if necessary, try a class to see if it suits your level.
  • How can I catch up with the level of the group if I have had to miss some classes?
You can use the videos of the dance steps we send through the whatsapp group, or if necessary, take a private lesson with one of our teachers.
  • Can I take a video / pictures in class?
At the end of the class, participants can take videos of the teacher as he/she demonstrates the combination of steps that you’ve learnt that day. But you can’t take videos or pictures of the classes during the pedagogical process.
  • Does the school take pictures and videos of courses and events?
At our dance school, we occasionally take photos and videos of classes and events for promotional purposes. This helps us showcase the vibrancy and spirit of our community. We understand the importance of privacy, so we will notify you in advance if videos will be taken during classes. This way, you can choose whether or not to appear in the footage.
  • Are there any savings in the case of combining different classes?
Yes, when you take combined classes, there are reductions in the price of each class. This reduction is bigger the more classes you take, up to the full pass subscription. Here you can see the prices of the different subscriptions:
  • What means of payment are accepted? Can I pay by cash?
We prefer payment by bank transaction to the account number BE62 0017 7949 0561 (payment details will be included in your subscription confirmation email), but you can also pay in cash to your teacher.
  • What is Camina's account number? And its BIC/SWIFT code?
    Account number: BE62 0017 7949 0561 Code BIC/SWIFT: GEBABEBB XXX
  • Is it possible to pay for classes separately instead of paying the whole term?
Paying for separate classes is only possible in the Afrocuban dance and other solo classes, but not in the partnerwork classes. This is due to the need to keep the balance between leaders and followers, to make sure that people have the required level so everyone can have a comfortable experience.
  • Under what circumstances could I get a refund?
Reimbursement will only be received in case of injury, justified illness or in case of an emergency or hardship that can be discussed with us.
  • What can I do to be reimbursed by my mutual insurance company?
You have to tell us the necessary documents that your mutual insurance company requires.
